MANUAL THERAPY
Chiropractic Technique
Chiropractic technique is a specialized manual therapy approach focused on restoring the normal alignment, movement and function of the spine and other joints. It is based on the understanding that structural imbalances or restricted joint motion can interfere with the optimal functioning of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems, leading to pain, stiffness and postural dysfunctions. These adjustments help achieve joint decompression, reduce mechanical stress and restore natural movement patterns. The procedure also helps normalize neural transmission, reduce muscular tension and improve the overall biomechanical efficiency of the spine.
Osteopathy Technique
Osteopathy Technique is a hands-on treatment approach that helps restore normal movement and balance in the body. It focuses on how the bones, joints, muscles and connective tissues work together to support healthy function. When these structures become tight, restricted or misaligned, they can cause pain, stiffness and reduced mobility. During treatment, gentle manual techniques are used to release tension, improve joint movement and enhance blood circulation. The therapist may use soft tissue work, stretching and specific joint movements to restore proper alignment and relieve strain. This helps the body heal naturally, reduces discomfort and improves flexibility.
Joint Mobilization
Joint Mobilization is used to restore normal movement and flexibility in stiff or restricted joints. It involves slow, controlled and repetitive movements applied to the joint within its natural range of motion. Unlike manipulation, which uses quick thrusts, mobilization focuses on gradual and sustained movements to improve joint mobility safely and comfortably. This technique helps reduce joint stiffness, relieve pain and improve overall function by restoring normal motion between the bones and surrounding soft tissues. It also enhances blood flow, reduces muscle tension and allows the body to move more freely.
Mulligan Concept
The Mulligan Concept is a manual therapy approach developed by physiotherapist Brian Mulligan. It focuses on correcting joint movement restrictions and restoring pain-free mobility through a combination of sustained manual glides and active patient movements. The technique is based on the idea that some pain or stiffness occurs due to minor positional faults within a joint. By correcting the underlying mechanical dysfunction and retraining movement patterns, the Mulligan Concept helps restore function, reduce discomfort and support a return to normal daily activities. The treatment is always pain-free and often produces instant relief, which helps patients regain confidence in movement.
The term myofascial refers to the fascia - a thin layer of connective tissue that surrounds and supports the muscles. When this fascia becomes tight or restricted due to injury, poor posture, stress or overuse, it can cause pain, stiffness and limited movement. During treatment, the therapist applies gentle, sustained pressure and stretching to the affected areas of fascia. This helps release tension, improve blood and lymphatic flow, and restore normal mobility to the muscles and joints. The technique works gradually to loosen the restricted tissue, allowing smoother and more pain-free movement.
Trigger Point Release is a manual therapy technique used to relieve pain and tightness caused by sensitive spots within muscles, known as trigger points or muscle knots. These points often form when a muscle becomes overworked, strained or held in tension for long periods. They can cause local pain or even refer discomfort to other areas of the body. The therapist locates these tight bands or nodules within the muscle and applies gentle, sustained pressure using the hands, fingers or specialized tools. This pressure helps reduce muscle contraction, improve blood flow, and restore normal muscle length and flexibility. As the tension releases, patients often feel a gradual easing of pain and a noticeable improvement in movement.
